The Importance of Sulfate-Free Formulas

A few weeks ago we announced that we’re launching 17 new Vitabath skincare products – Lime Citron Basil gelée and the Vitabath Fragrance Collection.  These fresh body washes will provide you with an affordable, luxurious at-home spa experience, complete with fun and flirty scents. But what we are most excited about is that the enriched formula will moisturize your skin with a rich, fragrant lather that is also sulfate and paraben free! You might be asking yourself – so what? Today, I wanted to share some information about sulfates – we’ll cover parabens later in the week.

Sulfates, known as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), are common preservatives found in many health and beauty products.  Studies are still being conducted on the long-term effects of sulfates, but some have shown that SLES can cause early onset of menopause in women, as its effects trick the human body to think that they are being produced by the estrogen hormone. SLS is known to have a long lasting effect on the human body and can remain in the human body for a significant amount of time as it cannot be metabolized by the human liver.  Other dangers of SLS are skin irritation, hormonal imbalance, eye problems in children, and even cancer.

Sulfates are commonly used as a lathering ingredient, so we’ve worked extra hard when developing our new products to create sulfate-free formulas that still offer Vitabath’s renowned luxurious lather. We’d love to hear your feedback on the lather when the products come out next month!
